After much more looking we have found a place! The wedding will be at the Carl House in Auburn, Georgia on June 5, 2010 at 12:00. I knew it was a winner when the girl showing us the house knew what kind of beer Zach wanted to have at the reception AND she was willing to let us serve it. He was trying to write her a check before we left. He even wanted to move the date to April. We compromised on June.

So now we have 2 places we’re currently deciding between. Double Cabins Plantation in Griffin and Stonewall Manor in Cartersville. Both are great deals and offer their own pros and cons. Double Cabins is virtually unknown since they’ve just started doing weddings. It’s an old plantation house that dates back to the civil war. The owners use it as a small bed and breakfast that has 3 suites you can rent; they also live in a separate portion of the house. We went to see this one a few weeks ago and have been leaning towards it for a while. The owner is really nice and very eager to please, but Zach still has his reservations, primarily the cleanliness/decor of the house and the owner’s ability to pull this off right. I’ll admit that she did seem a bit scattered during the tour, but she did forewarn me that they had people staying in the rooms and there was also some miscommunication about when we were coming – both of which, hopefully, explain the disarray. The house sits on 30 acres of land so most of the wedding would take place outside under 2 tents. Guests can use the house to get away from the crowd, use the restroom, or anything else you might need a house for. I’m thinking the amount of time spent in the house would be minimal so I can overlook the poor decorating choices. Overall the cost of this place is about half of what Flint Hill is asking. We can purchase and serve our own alcohol and we could do it on a Saturday night. So it’s kinda hard to pass up…
I was just about to book this place when Zach found Stonewall Manor earlier this week. This is a Victorian house/mansion in downtown Cartersville. I haven’t seen this one yet but we’re going on Sunday. This place offers many of the same perks – possible Saturday wedding, open alcohol policy, and access to the house all day of the wedding. But, this place also does catering and, from the pictures, the house looks pretty nice. They also have more experience doing weddings so I feel like it’s a little less of a risk. Either way I’m pretty excited about both places – they were very hard to find! I really didn’t think a place existed that would fulfill both of our unique and mismatched requests.
